NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS ACOUSTICAL SYSTEMS CEILING & WALL PANELS BAFFLE SYSTEM
Note to Specifier: NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS’ products are finished decorative/functional products and should be specified in: 09510 - Acoustical Ceilings, 09547 - Metal Ceiling, 09585 - Acoustical Ceilings, Baffles & Screens or 09800 - Acoustical Treatments
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
- A. Drawings and General Provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1Specification Sections apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
- A. This section includes Metal (ceiling panels or wall panels or baffle systems) as shown on the architectural drawings.
B. Related Sections include the following: (list applicable sections)
1.3 SUBMITTALS
- A. Manufacturer's Literature and Data:
- 1. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical data and brochures for each type of specified system required. All products furnished shall have a flame spread classification of 0-25 for a Class A or 1 rating in accordance with ASTM-C423.
- B. Shop Drawings:
- 1. Shop drawings shall show dimensions, sizes, thickness, finishes, joining, attachments, and relationship of adjoining work.
- C. Samples:
- 1. Samples shall include a minimum 12" X 12" piece of each type of metal, finished as specified, and accessories.
- D. Certification:
- 1. Submit certification from manufacturer of wall panel (or ceiling panels) attesting that products comply with specified requirements including finish as specified.
- E. Qualification Data:
- 1. Firms specified in "Quality Assurance" Article must demonstrate their capabilities and experience by including lists of completed projects with project names and addresses, names and addresses of architects and owners, and other information specified.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
- A. Manufacturer: Firm with manufacturing and delivery capacity required for the project, shall have successfully completed at least ten projects within the past five years, utilizing systems, materials and techniques as herein specified.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE & HANDLING
- A. All materials shall be protected during fabrication, shipment, site storage and erection to prevent damage to the finished work from other trades. Store wall panels inside a well-ventilated area, away from uncured concrete and masonry, and protected from the weather, moisture, soiling, abrasion, extreme temperatures, and humidity.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER
- A. NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS, Division of Richard L. Lofton Company, 703 West 26th Ave., Covington, La. 71134, (800) 354-4154, FAX (985) 892-7196. The listed manufacturer shall not be construed as closing specifications to other prospective manufacturers, but rather as establishing a level of quality in a metal system. Other systems may be submitted for approval; as provided for in the specifications at least 10 working days prior to submission of bids.
2.2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
- A. (Ceiling System) (Wall Panels) (Baffle Panels) shall be NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS, Acoustical Systems. All panels, perimeter trims and suspension components plus acoustical components shall be provided as a complete package of this work.
2.3 MATERIALS
- A. Suspension System (For ceiling applications)
- 1. Extruded aluminum as manufactured by OTHERS, shall consist of main tees, perimeter trim, cross tees, perimeter angle, and any necessary clips, and splices required for a complete system as required to meet local building codes.
2. Deflection of grid shall be limited to L/360 of the span when full dead load is applied. 3. Aluminum Extrusion shall be 6063-T6 alloys. (ASTM B 221, ASTM B 221 M) 4 General: Provide metals free from surface blemishes where exposed to view in finished unit. Surfaces that exhibit pitting, seam marks, roller marks stains, and discolorations, or other imperfections on finished units are not acceptable. All metal shall be of the highest - grade commercial type,
OR
- A. Mounting Accessories (For Wall Panel Applications)
- 1. Extruded or brake form aluminum as manufactured by NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS, Division Richard L. Lofton Co., Interior Specialties. Accessories shall include Z-Furring, J Trim, or inside/outside angles in a size and length to completely support and finish trim the wall panels as shown in elevations. All mounting accessories shall be finished to match corrugated NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS Wall Panels.
2. Size of Mounting Accessories shall be standard length of 10'. Materials shall be fabricated from .032" stucco embossed aluminum or smooth aluminum, or 24 gauge steel (if panels are steel).
OR
- A. Mounting Accessories (For Wall Mounted Baffle Panels)
- 1. For surface mounting to structural wall, Z Clips are furnished in extruded aluminum or 18 gauge Galvanized steel, finished to match the Baffle Panel.
2. For offset mounting, offset mounts are available for 1", 2" or 4" spacing from the wall
- B. Metal Panels
- 1. Choose from the following selections for exposed metal gauge of material should be adequate to resist design loads as well as possible abuse in specific application, Aluminum sheet shall be minimum.032 thickness, Steel sheets shall be (Galvalume) aluminum zinc alloy shall be minimum of (24 Gauge).
2. The metal acoustical (Ceiling Panels) (Wall Panels) (Baffle Panels) shall be corrugated using (Specified NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS Pattern Type) and perforated with 1/8" diameter holes on 21/64" staggered centers, approximately 13.3 % open area. 3. The panels shall be fabricated of stucco-embossed or smooth aluminum(.032") OR galvalume 24 gauge steel. 4. Acoustical Qualities:
- a. Provide fiberglass ( 2" or other thickness) X (1# or 2# or other density PVC wraps). The fiberglass panel shall be wrapped in Class A 1 mill thick Polyvinylchloride or 2 mill thick low gloss black.
b. All material as furnished shall be tested in accord with ASTM C-423 for Sound Absorption.
2.4 FINISHES
- A. Standard Finishes -(Interior or exterior use) Aluminum & aluminum zinc alloy (Galvalume) steel panels and baffles shall receive a factory applied and baked finish of a Kynar 500® / Hylar 5000
OR
- A. Custom Finish -(Interior use only)
- 1. All Noise Control Systems Panels, Baffles & Accessories shall receive a micro-etched pretreatment prior to receiving an electrostatically applied Acrylic-Polyester hybrid powder coat paint finish.
2. All cut edges, including perforated holes must be coated. Finish shall be cured and oven baked to insure paint adhesion and uniform surface hardness. 3. Paint Color to be selected from NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS Standard Colors (or approved custom color).
PART 3 - INSTALLATION
3.1 INSTALLATION
- A. General: Comply with manufacturer's printed instructions and with the Ceiling & Interior Systems Construction Association standards applicable to work.
B. Space Enclosure: Do not install any work until space is enclosed and weatherproofed, wet-work in space is completed and nominally dry, work above ceilings is complete, and temperature and humidity is continuously maintained at values near those of final occupancy.
- C. Install Grid Systems: OTHERS (Ceilings)
- 1. Comply with ASTM C636-92, with hangers supported only from building structural members.
2. Locate hangers not less than 6" from each end of grid system members, and spaced in between as needed to meet specified design loads. 3. Install hangers plumb and free from contact with insulation or other objects within ceiling plenum that are not part of structural or ceiling grid system. 4. Splay hangers to a maximum of 15 degrees from the vertical, only where required to miss obstructions and offset resulting horizontal force by bracing or counter splaying.
- D. Edge Trim:
- 1. Install trim at perimeter of ceiling system using, maximum possible lengths, straight, true to line and level.
2. Provide edge trim at junctions with other soffit finished, and where cut panel edges would be exposed.
- E. Metal Panels:
- 1. Fit metal panel units in place, free from defects detrimental to appearance and function.
2. Install units in level, in uniform plane, and free from twist, warp and dents. 3. If necessary, cut panels to fit borders and other penetrations.
3.2 CLEANING
- A. Clean all surfaces following installation.
B. Replace units having scratches, abrasions, or other defects, with unblemished panels, or suspension. C. Maintenance per manufacturer's finish maintenance instructions.
3.3 PROTECTION
- A. Protection of NOISE CONTROL SYSTEMS from damage by other trades after installation to be provided by general contractor.
